Cinema, theatre, concerts or perhaps a cooking course or even a Pilate’s session. Living in the centre of the town has always had its advantages. Above all, being able to leave the car at home and walk among its narrow streets. Probably the urban life that Menorca offers us is a far cry from the big city but here lies the beauty of being able to live in Menorca and enjoy it.
For example, at the beginning of June in the Teatro Principal in Mahon there will be a performance of Lucia di Lammermoor, of Gaetano Donizetti’s musical opera that the Opera de Amics has scheduled for the 2nd and the 4th of June. In theses roles we have a magnificent cast, such as the famous and talented Romanian operatic soprano, closely connected to the Zurich Opera House, Elena Moscu, who has performed this role in some of the most important theatres in the world, such as The Liceu, The Scalla in Milan and the Royal Opera House in London. She will be accompanied by Celso Albelo and Viadimer Stoyanov who plays the role of Edgardo and our own baritone Menorquin, Simon Orfila who will plays the part of the monk incarnate Raimondo.
The Museum in Menorca is home to one of the largest monographic exhibitions on the illustrated painter Pasqual Calbo, with a collection of 45 works, most of which belong to private collectors, some unpublished for the general public. The exhibit compiles of the painter’s European tour during his youth, in which he related to the new artistic tendencies as well as the scientific and didactic treatises that he wrote. A visit is definitely recommended.
