Tips for enjoying the Saints Day Festivities of Menorca

  1. Appreciate and enjoy the traditional meaning of the festivals, and respect the customs that rule them.
  2. The horses and their riders are the stars of these festivals. They would prefer nobody touched the bridles or hit the animals, since this might make the riders lose control of them.
  3. Follow the instructions of the local security personnel of the festival.
  4. It is best not to overdo the drinking because it makes it more difficult to control a mass-attended festival, and dangerous around the horses. We should be respectful to everyone. And just in case you have enjoyed the traditional “pomada” (local gin and lemonade) in excess, don’t drive, take the Jaleo Bus instead.
  5. The dance of the giants and bigheads has been organized for the enjoyment of the younger audience. Better not to attend the jaleo event with prams.Sant Joan de Menorca
  6. The best thing to wear for this type of festival is light clothing and proper, comfortable footwear. Leave flip-flops, high heels and platform shoes behind, if you wish to be close to the horses.
  7. You should protect yourself from the sun, wear hats, sunglasses… and use sun cream and drink plenty of water
  8. Don’t carry glass bottles.
  9. Make use of the specially placed toilets for the festival, which are installed in different areas or if you buy a drink from a bar, they are obliged to let you use their cloakroom facilities.
