Mandatory Visit – Artisan Centre of Menorca

The Artisan Centre of Menorca is the first space dedicated to local crafts, opened in the Balearic Islands six years ago in the municipality of Es Mercadal. Located in an old building that was once a military barracks, occupying more than 600 meters and over two floors, there are temporary exhibitions, a reference room and also a small shop selling the local wares. Menorca is undoubtedly an island of tradesmen with a census of more than 300 people.

The Centre is open from the beginning of March until the end of October and each year receives an average of six thousand visitors; not only tourists looking for authentic artisan work of Menorca but also school children who are privileged to have this place to be able to enjoy a day of learning.  Two years ago, the Artisan Centre of Menorca was nominated as a finalist in the National Crafts Awards promoted by the Ministry of Tourism for its work of dissemination and promotion of local and creative crafts.

So, now that you know, the next time you pass through Es Mercadal take the opportunity to stop and stroll through this indigenous Menorcan space.  And, by the way, you can also visit the Bonnin Sanso Office there – we will be happy to say hello.
