We have already spoken about active tourism activities in our blog in touch with nature such as the trekking routes of the Camí de Cavalls, but special mention should be made of the possibility of touring Menorca on horseback. In fact, horses have a special connection with the island due to their leading role during the saint’s day festivals, but without doubt the Menorca breed is known worldwide. There are several riding stables that put us in contact with the equestrian world and one of these is the Son Àngel estate, which for ten years has been working as one of the most experienced stables on the island.
The Son Àngel estate is in the north of Menorca and has around 300 hectares of farmland, woods, coastline and buildings. It is located in an area of great scenic and ecological value with many ethnological elements. Equestrian tourism is all about the small details and at Son Ángel they know this because they have different routes where one can discover Menorca’s astonishing wild coast. In fact, the north of Menorca is one of the favourite areas for riders because the excursions are often combined with tailor-made cultural and gastronomic experiences.
To visit the southern area, a good option is that of the Binigaus Vell country hotel, which has its own Menorca bred stud farm, a crossbreed with the Spanish horse. One of its interesting ideas is the Camí de Cavalls the bridle path from east to west. It begins gently in Es Canutells, and ends along a rugged landscape made up of the southern ravines in the central area. Along the route there are visits to, among other spots, Cales Coves, an ancient Iron Age necropolis, which has more than 90 caves, or the longest beach in Menorca, that of Son Bou, at the foot of which is an early Christian basilica, dated from 400 AD.
