We have commented on more than one occasion the reasons why many people confirm that living in Menorca is a privilege, this declaration comes from the quality of life that is felt. This quality is noted not only by the people that live here but also by the animals that inhabit the island, which can enjoy the extensive green spaces of the Menorcan countryside. Today we want to focus on the extensive network of veterinaries that care for the pets and other wildlife of Menorca, whilst also offering excellent attention and peace of mind for their owners.
Let’s start with the Wildlife Recovery Centre, which is located in Ciutadella, in the Pedrera de l’Alzina. Its aim is to contribute to the maintenance of zoological biodiversity of Menorca by means of helping the injured or endangered wildlife. It also undertakes an educational and awareness-raising role by providing open days to the public. Its installations include a flight space, which assists in the rehabilitation of bird species that need to recover their full flying capacity, as well as a space for animals which, due to disabilities, cannot be released again into their natural habitats. There is also an artificial lake where autochthonous turtles are kept and cared for as a result of not being able to be released back into the wild. Finally, the Wildlife Recovery Centre also offers an enclosure for tortoises which have been kept in captivity and are cared for temporarily until they are fit and healthy enough to be able to be released back into nature. The centre organises volunteer days, open to those who want to collaborate in the maintenance and improvement of the installations, which measure 600 square metres.
In terms of veterinary clinics, there are more than fifteen private centres spread around the island. In Mahón we highlight the Cardona & Von Hofe Veterinary Clinic, in the industrial estate, and the Rafael Coll Veterinary Clinic in the centre, the Es Mercadal Veterinary Clinic of Joan Vinent and Marian Huguet in the district of the same name, the Jaume Pons and Lídia Massip Veterinary Clinic in Ciutadella, who collaborate with the Wildlife Recovery Centre, Veterinario Es Castell with Juan Carlos & Mari Carmen and finally the Alaior Veterinary Clinic. bonnin sanso
