Aikido man in Bonnin Sansó

The fact is I have several hobbies that I do in my free time, but without the slightest doubt what I like most are martial arts. I’ve been doing Aikido for more than 10 years and feel I am a real enthusiast of this martial art that is also a way of understanding life. What is Aikido? It is a martial art from Japan, whose main characteristic is to avoid conflict, controlling the opponent without hurting them and thus avoiding a new conflict.

I think I am a calm person, I would say almost Zen-like, to use an in-term, and this trait of my personality helps me in my job as head of IT department at Bonnin Sanso, since I need to stay calm to be able to organise a large number of files, tasks and routines so that everything runs smoothly, and in the shortest time possible.

Those of us who do Aikido are promoters of peace and have high respect for everything that surrounds us. The true spirit of martial arts should not be to focus on the combat part; it’s in the search for harmony between the person and the world that surrounds us by means of training and continuous practice. In Aikido there are no competitions, no divisions by age, weight or sex, we are all eternal apprentices in the Art of Peace, as Aikido is also known. Competing and comparing yourself to others only feeds our ego: our sole objective is to overcome our own goals.

All the above, and a special interest in Japanese culture, has led me to travel to Japan to discover this magnificent culture and to discover it for myself, and the truth is I wasn’t disappointed.

I also collaborate every June, with the organisation of a fair devoted to Japanese culture, which takes place in Es Mercadal, Menorca, during which there are film shows, exhibitions in martial arts, Reiki, concerts and a long list of activities based on the country of the rising sun.
