A stroll though the clouds (Es Grau)

Quiet and exclusive like few other places, the small fishermen’s village of Es Grau is one of the most beautiful spots on the Menorca coast. The stacked up white cottages seem to form part of a large canvas, and are part of the holidaymaking history of the people of Mahón. A corner full of life and protected from bad weather by the isle of En Colom, which gifts sailors one of the most ideal areas in Menorca for diving. Despite being packed with visitors in summer, during the rest of the year there is also a busy social life due to the spirit of the all-year-round residents.

The Playa d’Es Grau beach is long and perfect to visit with children due to its shallow waters. Behind the beach starts the Albufera d’es Grau, a coastal lagoon connected to the sea via the channel called Sa Gola where you can see the vegetation of the salty waters, such as tamarinds and glassworts. The Natural Park of the Albufera d’es Grau is a perfect area for walking and observing the great biodiversity and unique habitats. If there is one place on Menorca where we can speak of a Biosphere Reserve, then it is Albufera. The Natural Park Information Centre which is at the entrance from the road provides all the information about the routes to follow.

For trekkers the area of Es Grau also has an interesting walk on the Camí de Cavalls, in the section that leads to Faváritx (8.5 kilometres heading north) and to Sa Mesquida (5 kilometres heading south). Both walks are well worth doing for the spectacular views they have.
