Cala Galdana, and one of the best beaches

Cala Galdana is an urbanisation just 8km from Ferreries, it’s situated in the south/center part of the island. It’s beautiful and long beach, is over 400 meters long, and is an ideal bathing area. The transparent, crystalline water acquires its turquoise color due to the white sand that it covers.

It is an ideal beach for families and children, as the access by car is easy, it has nearby parking and shallow waters near the sandy beach. It’s natural U shape means that its extra protected, so normally there are no waves, unless a there is a strong south wind, in which case, we would recommend you visit a beach on the north of the island, for example Arenal d’en Castell.

The surroundings of Cala Galdana

An essential stop is the Cala Galdana “mirador”, from which you can enjoy the views of the whole bay and it is an ideal place for a beautiful panoramic photo. Because of the height you can see the natural shape of the beach and where the river meets the sea.

Cala Galdana also offers a wide variety of restaurants, supermarkets and small shops, so you’ll be able to spend a wonderful day at the beach.

Hiking from Cala Galdana

Cala Galdana can be the starting point to walk to Cala Macarella or Cala Mitjana, following the Camí de Cavalls (Menorca’s Bridle Path). These are two beaches that you simply have to visit, which I would say is a low difficulty walk (I would strongly recommend suitable footwear), the path is well marked, with square little wooden markers, every few meters, you will be submerged in the  middle of nature, and suddenly you will be able to hear the sea, as you approach the first Cala.

  • From Cala Galdana to Cala Macarella there is approximately 2km, so about a 35 minute walk
  • From Cala Galdana to Cala Mitjana there is approximately 1.5km  about a 20 minute walk

How to get to Cala Galdana

You can’t miss it!, just follow the road signposts

By car, from Ciutadella, you would take the main road towards Maó and turn right at the roundabout it’s signposted “Cala Galdana”, and is just before reaching the village of Ferreries.

From Maó we would take the main road towards Ciutadella and as soon as we’ve come through the tunnel that bypasses the village of Ferrerias, we find ourselves at the roundabout where we would turn off towards Cala Galdana.

If you don’t have a car, you can still enjoy Cala Galdana, as it’s one of the beaches in Menorca that you can buy a bus ticket to.

We do hope you enjoy it!
