We continue with our section about news and events which took place in 1988 – the date in which our Estate Agency, Bonnin Sanso, was founded. In our local newspaper, Menorca, it was said that a scene of a film, starring the actor Kirk Douglas, would be shot in Fornells.
Catalan film maker, Eugeni Anglada, said that he had spoken to Douglas at the Cannes Film Festival and asked him if he would be interested in participating in his next film “The Last Adventure”. It had a budget of 75 million pesetas not counting the Spartacus actor’s fees. Part of the story had a romantic plot of an old sea dog which took place in a small fishing village. Anglada said that he had chosen Fornells because it maintained an authentic taste which the Costa Brava no longer had.
He wanted to make this film with the North American actor and a large number of other actors and extras. In the end Kirk Douglas turned it down due to other work commitments, his fees were enormous and so the Spanish actor, Antonio Ferrandiz, was substituted.
In the end neither Douglas nor Ferrandiz made the film.
